Employee Spotlight | Director, Global Business Operations, Horn and Mane Inc.
Rachelle (that’s with two l’s and an e) Seguin joined our team in early 2021 and has already had a huge impact on our team and company. She’s bravely taken control of the company’s day-to-day business operations with a sharp eye on the future and a fast-growing interest in all things digital. Best of all, she brings a unique point of view to our growing team and isn’t afraid to share it.
It’s rare these days that an internal meeting lasts more than an hour, that a task goes unchecked and that a project moves forward without a really good reason. She’s all about setting priorities, measuring efficiencies and eliminating things that don’t generate a return – and that’s for both us and our clients. She’s also super creative and always on the look out for the next big idea.
She scares us a little bit. But she’s exactly what we needed and at the perfect time.
We asked Rachelle to share a few things about herself. We told her to take a week. We got this back in 24 hours. That’s just how she rolls.
…
You recently joined Horn and Mane as Director, Global Business Operations. What was it that attracted you to the company?
I love a good challenge! I knew by joining this team of like-minded people, who challenge themselves and each other daily for the better of their clients, it would be a great fit.
Do you remember your first day at school? Tell us about it.
I vividly remember my first day of high school. Because I was a francophone living in southern Ontario, my elementary school graduating class had only 8 students. My high school class, although still small, was much larger than what I was used to. It was a big jump, but an opportunity to really choose my friends based on similar interests and organic connections. I know many wouldn’t, but I would do high school all over again in a heartbeat. Except maybe the 3rd day when I bailed down the stairs in my kilt between classes when everyone was there to see…thank goodness I was wearing neon pink bike shorts underneath!
How did that compare to your first day at your new job?
This is very different. In school, I had to go searching for the right people. I knew right away at Horn and Mane that this was a very special group of people who are motivated to push through challenges and come out stronger each time.
Who were your childhood heroes?
My mother. She is the most selfless, hardworking, intelligent and loving person I know. I am the oldest of four siblings and my dad is a pilot, so he travelled all the time. My mom worked a full-time, high executive job in finance, made homemade meals, kept us all in line and did it joyfully every, single, day.
If I had to go the celebrity route, I’ve always been intrigued by strong women with bright personalities. If I had to name a few: Princess Diana, Tina Turner, Cher.
Everyone is talking about digital right now. Digital Transformation, Digital Marketing, Ecommerce… what’s your take on it?
Simple – it’s not going anywhere! Businesses that want to continue to grow need to jump on for the ride or settle for less at this point.
What’s something new you learned about the digital landscape since joining the company?
You can do anything with digital, but only if you do it right. You need the right people, with the right expertise who really know the industry to be able to capitalize.
Horn and Mane supports businesses in some pretty cool cities. Which one are you eager to visit when travel resumes? And why?
I LOVE NEW YORK and would drop everything at any opportunity to visit, especially after this past year. The lights, the art, the energy is like nowhere else I have been. However, I am most interested in travelling and meeting clients in the Middle East. I find the culture fascinating and intriguing and the landscape absolutely beautiful in such a different way than what we have in North America.
Start-ups are all about learning. What are you hoping to learn in your new role?
I hope to really dive into some of the industries that our clients operate in. I love the passion behind entrepreneurs and would love to understand what makes them tick. I really believe that small businesses make the world go round and Horn and Manes’ commitment to helping start-up companies grow is something I am passionate about.
If you could have dinner with 5 famous people from history, who would they be and why?
- Princess Diana – for her light
- Martha Graham – for her love of the art of dance
- Martin Luther King – for his bravery
- Michael Jackson – for his entertainment
- Mother Theresa – for her heart
What’s the one thing that you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered for my positive energy and outlook. I know sometimes it is a lot for some people, but I can’t imagine going through life any other way and I truly hope this is a trait I can pass on to my two sons.
If you were an animal (side note: we love the ones with horns and manes), which one would you be and why?
Easy – even without the hint I would have chosen a Lion. Why? They are strong, sleek and can command any room!
